Special Education

Learning Upgrade enables schools to provide effective individualized instruction for students with disabilities at a variety of levels. Special education teachers can assign each student to a personalized pathway including placement, instruction, and continuous assessment. The program supports family engagement and enables students to complete lessons at home using parent smartphones. Lessons feature music, video, and games to provide alternative pathways to learning growth. Detailed reports with subject area scores provide documented time-on-task and progress monitoring.

English Language Learners

Learning Upgrade gives English learners at any level a path to full proficiency, with 7 levels of courses and 420 comprehensive lessons. The program includes placement as well as detailed assessment of English skills. The lessons Include listening, writing, grammar, spelling, and presenting skills

Math and Reading Intervention​

Learning Upgrade supports Tier 2 and Tier 3 intervention to move students up to proficiency with individualized instruction on tablets, computers, and smartphones. The program can close the achievement gap for Title I, low-income and disadvantaged students through accelerated growth. Learning Upgrade integrates with a school’s RTI model with built-in continuous assessment and detailed progress monitoring in reading and math.

The engaging interactive format of songs, video, and games keeps students engaged. Students can learn using tablets, computers, and smartphones at school and at home. Detailed reporting documents student time-on-task and growth in reading, math, and digital skills.

Refugee and Migrant Education

Learning Upgrade’s refugee model using learning communities with WhatsApp groups is in use in over 10 countries with thousands of refugees. Children and adults in crisis situations can learn English, math, and job skills for self-reliance through a groundbreaking smartphone and computer-based education program. Partnering with a global network of Refugee-Serving and Refugee-Led Organizations, we’re providing an accessible and standards-based digital curriculum to promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.

Out-of-School Youth

Organizations are successfully using Learning Upgrade to help transition out-of-school youth into formal education at accredited schools, higher education, and job training. Many out-of-school youth are far below grade level in reading and math, or do not have English skills required in formal schools. Immigrant, migrant, and refugee students in crisis settings face additional barriers to access education including language and cultural challenges. To successfully integrate into a formal school, students need rapid and effective remedial instruction. The Learning Upgrade program adapts to a variety of low resource settings, making use of computer labs and personal smartphones to deliver effective intervention. The engaging lessons featuring songs, video, and games gives each student a personalized path to grade level proficiency, so they can cope with entering school.

Girls' Education

Girls who complete a secondary school education earn more, marry later, and raise children who are healthier, are less likely to face discrimination and abuse, and invest more in their communities. Still, girls face many barriers to accessing quality education, such as gender norms that prevent them from attending school, time poverty due to additional responsibilities around the home, safety concerns, and a lack of sexual and reproductive health education.
